What is Low-Code?
Low-code is an application development approach where much of the user interface, form flow, data connection, and business-rule setup is done through visual tools. Code is not eliminated; developers are still needed for complex validation, custom integrations, performance-sensitive logic, and maintainable architecture.
Core Components
Low-code platforms commonly include drag-and-drop UI builders, prebuilt data connectors, role and permission controls, workflow engines, form rules, reporting, and deployment tools. Some platforms focus on mobile apps and portals, while others are strongest for internal process automation.
When Is It Useful?
Departmental approval forms, field data collection, simple customer portals, and helper apps around ERP or CRM systems are typical low-code use cases. For a core product, high-traffic workload, highly custom user experience, or architecture that must stay under tight engineering control, conventional software development is often a better fit.
No-code reduces the need for technical users even further, while RPA usually automates repetitive work across existing screens and applications.
