Multilingual Site & Internationalization (i18n)

Reach international markets with multilingual website setup, hreflang, SEO-friendly URL architecture and practical content management.

You want to enter foreign markets, or you are already receiving visitors in different languages, but your site is only in Turkish. The solution seems simple: translate and paste. However, a technically misimplemented multilingual site causes you to lose ground to competitors in SEO, Google cannot determine which language version to show to which country, and users who encounter content in the wrong language immediately leave the site. Good content does not generate organic traffic on a poor technical SEO foundation.

Our Solution Approach

At Barlas Dijital, we configure multilingual site development correctly from both a technical and content management perspective. The i18n infrastructure is integrated into the project from the outset; multilingual structures added after the fact always result in technical debt and SEO issues. URL architecture, hreflang tags, language detection logic, and content management flows are designed as a unified whole. Using Astro’s and Next.js’s i18n modules, we build a robust and easy-to-maintain multilingual infrastructure.

Scope & Features

  • URL structure design — /tr/, /en/ subdirectory structure or subdomain approach; selection based on the balance between SEO and usability
  • hreflang tag setup — Language and region mappings; x-default settings; mutual tag validation
  • Language detection and routing — Smart automatic routing based on browser language preference and geographic location
  • Translator-friendly CMS structure — Language-based content separation; management interface that translators can work with easily
  • SEO-compliant meta tags — Separate title, description, Open Graph, and Twitter Card for each language
  • Date, time, and currency localization — Compliance with local standards such as Turkish TRY, English USD, Arabic SAR
  • RTL language support — CSS and layout adaptation for right-to-left writing systems such as Arabic and Persian
  • Translation workflow consulting — How to manage other language versions when content is updated; designing a sustainable process

Technical Standards

Astro’s built-in i18n routing system or Next.js with next-intl, combined in an SSG-based multilingual structure, generates fully static pages for each language version; maximum performance is achieved without SSR overhead. hreflang implementation is validated with Google Rich Results Test and Search Console. All language versions are indexed as separate pages in search engines, each with independent canonical and meta structure.

Who Is It For?

  • E-commerce and service businesses looking to grow in both Turkey and international markets simultaneously
  • B2B companies and agencies looking to reach international clients with Turkish and English content
  • Companies looking to build a multilingual web infrastructure to enter Middle Eastern or European markets

Expected Outcomes

  • Your site begins to rank organically on Google in foreign languages; international traffic arrives
  • Each language version reaches the correct users in the right region; wrong-language complaints come to an end
  • Adding a new language becomes a systematic process; developer dependency decreases
  • From an SEO perspective, each language version independently builds authority; organic growth becomes multi-channel
