What is Freemium?
Turkish: Freemium
Freemium is a SaaS model where basic use is free while advanced features, capacity, or support require a paid plan.
What is Freemium?
Freemium opens a limited but genuinely useful version of a product for free. Users who need more capacity, team features, integrations, support, or security controls are encouraged to move to a paid plan.
How Is It Designed?
A freemium plan should not be only a demo. Users need to experience real value and build a habit. The upgrade boundary should feel natural: number of users, storage, transaction quota, advanced reports, removing branding, or admin permissions.
Product teams track activation rate, free-to-paid conversion, support cost, usage quotas, and churn. In SaaS businesses, these metrics affect revenue forecasting and infrastructure planning.
Business Impact
Freemium can reduce marketing friction because users can try the product without a sales call. The risk is cost: free users still consume infrastructure, onboarding attention, and support capacity.
Freemium does not create MRR by itself. MRR appears when free users convert to paid subscriptions, so packaging, in-product prompts, and paywall placement are part of the product strategy.
