What is Virtual POS (Payment Gateway)?

Turkish: Sanal POS

A virtual POS connects an online store to a bank or payment institution so it can accept card payments securely over the internet.

What is Virtual POS (Payment Gateway)?

A virtual POS is the online equivalent of a physical card terminal. It lets an e-commerce site, mobile app, or payment link collect card payments securely, send the transaction to a bank or payment institution, and return the payment result to the order system.

How It Works

The customer enters card details into a payment form. Ideally, raw card data is processed in the provider’s secure fields or tokenization infrastructure. The provider communicates with the card network and issuing bank, applies 3D Secure when required, and returns the result. A successful transaction creates an authorization or sale record; a failed transaction returns an error code and message to the store.

Choosing a Virtual POS

Commission is only one factor. Installment support, refund and cancellation APIs, fraud controls, reconciliation reports, multi-currency support, payment links, subscription payments, documentation, and support quality all matter.

Payment gateway is the broader integration layer, while “virtual POS” is a common term in Turkey for online card acceptance. Providers such as iyzico, Sipay, Param, PayTR, and bank virtual POS products are typical options.
